CARNAVAL 2026

As the Winter hits our tropical Island, what can we expect from the coming months? Well, more beautiful weather, cloudless blue skies, and stunning views of the sunsets & sunrises …. making Tenerife not a bad place to live!

We do start the winter period with some great news: Tenerife Property Shop has been honoured with two International Property Awards:

REAL ESTATE AGENCY, SINGLE OFFICE, CANARY ISLANDS
BEST REAL ESTATE AGENCY WEBSITE, CANARY ISLANDS

The International Property Awards celebrate the highest levels of achievement by companies operating in all sectors of the property and real estate industry. An International Property Award is a world-renowned mark of excellence, which we work very hard to compete for, and which we are always very proud to receive.

Tenerife Property Shop Director, Mary Spencer, was present at the Awards ceremony in London at the Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, on 23rd October 2025, where the Awards were presented by Stuart Shield, International Property Awards organiser, and Lord Best.

Tenerife Property Shop excelled themselves against the best property professionals from across Europe, and was recognised as Award winners in both of these categories.

On the subject of holidays, one new system which is being implemented, albeit in stages across Spain & the EU, is the Entry Exit System (EES), a computerised system that electronically registers travellers from outside the EU entering and leaving the Schengen area. It became operational in certain test airports on 12th October 2025, and collects data such as travellers’ photos, fingerprints and passport information, replacing the manual stamping of passports. The system is being implemented gradually and is expected to be fully operational at all borders by 10th April 2026, at the latest.

Don’t worry, you don’t need to do anything in advance of travelling. Upon arrival the automated machines will collect your biometric data, including photo, fingerprints and other passport information. You may also be asked to answer a selection of the following questions:

  • Purpose of your trip: Why are you here? (e.g., tourism, study, business)
  • Duration of your stay: How long will you be here?
  • Proof of accommodation: Do you have a place to stay?
  • Return or onward ticket: Do you have proof of your departure?
  • Sufficient funds: Can you show you have enough money to support yourself during your stay?
  • Travel insurance: Do you have medical and travel insurance?

This information, along with your entry date and location, will be stored in the EES central database for up to three years.
One purpose of this new digital software is to assist the authorities in controlling the Post-Brexit 90/180 Rule, in order to prevent travellers taking advantage of the current system. It is also intended that this new system will greatly speed up the border control process.

To remind you, Tenerife Property Shop are here to assist you with your questions & enquiries, whether buying or selling, and our dedicated Team of professionals are always happy to share their wealth of knowledge.

So please feel free to give us a call, send an email, or drop us a WhatsApp …. we look forward to hearing from you!

With the summer season having drawn to a close, we really must pinch ourselves to believe it’s October. With temperatures still not dropping below 20 degrees at night, now is the time of year that we really appreciate the stark contrast between the European climate and the one we are so blessed to have here in Tenerife.

So, with the children back at school, all businesses are ready at full throttle for the winter season. And, of course, that includes all the team here at Tenerife Property Shop.

The autumn and winter months are the perfect time to both advertise and purchase property here in Tenerife. Everyone is back in work mode, all solicitors, lawyers, and official offices are back to full opening times, and here at Tenerife Property Shop we are refreshed and eager to welcome all your enquiries.

Visitors to Tenerife

The property market in Tenerife, and the Canaries in general, continues to exhibit the same excellent trends as it has since the post-Brexit recovery period. High quality properties, in the most sought-after locations, rarely stay on the market for more than a few months, and many sell within a matter of weeks. If we look at the facts and figures of just how many people are visiting the island, it’s not difficult to fathom why. This year, up to the end of August, a staggering 4,802,356 people arrived in Tenerife, meaning that by the end of the year some 7 million people will have visited our shores. This gives an average monthly figure of 602,402 visitors, a staggering 10% increase on 2023.

A visit to our shores in autumn is the perfect excuse to combine your property search with some serious sightseeing. With the temperatures hovering around the mid-twenties in the daytime, you can really soak up the sights without getting too hot and bothered.

The sunsets at this time of year are also unarguably the very best, the sky lighting up as though it is on fire, as the sun gently fades away behind the neighbouring island of La Gomera. There are some prime places to watch the sunset here on the west coast; but what better place than your very own place in the sun?

What’s Happening in Tenerife

The autumn months continue to attract visitors here from all walks of life. One particular group of visitors that flock here are surfers, the waves being at their optimum at this time of year. So how about sipping a cocktail on the terrace of your favourite bar, watching the surfers as the sun goes down?

There are also a couple of interesting, and very different festivals here at the end of October and November, these being "La Castañada" and the Fiesta of San Andres.

The Castañada is celebrated around the same time as our Halloween and also tends to coincide with All Saint’s Day on the 1st of November. Although Halloween is also very popular here, the island is proud to preserve cultures and practices including the roasting of chestnuts for the Castañada. This magical event is looked forward to by all ages each year, with children and adults dressing up in traditional costumes and schools inviting families to come and join in the celebrations.

The Fiesta of San Andres originated in La Orotava, in the north of the island, and is celebrated on the 30th of November each year. It is interesting to note that at this time of year, the temperatures are a lot lower in the north of the island, and rain is also very common. Tenerife has many microclimates, it’s possible to experience all seasons in just one day

If you wish to watch this first-hand, wrap up warm and head to either Icod de Los Viños in the north, or the mountain village of Chio in the southwest. Here you will find children with tin cans attached to strings, known as "cacharros", and adults with home-made go-karts. In Icod de Los Viños the festival is known as "Las Tablas", and in Chio as "Los Carros". The locals take this challenge very seriously and spend many months preparing their karts for race night. These handmade vehicles have no brakes, so the bottom of the steep streets are prepared some days in advance with heaps of used car tyres. A night to remember, and something that is surely unique to Tenerife. This tradition is a must-see that certainly isn’t for the feint hearted.

Here at Tenerife Property Shop we love to give you an insight into what it’s really like to live on this beautiful island. Combined with more than three decades of experience in the real estate industry, we can confidently say we have the knowledge and know-how to help you every step of the way with the purchase of your very own place in the sun.
