Movie Madness in Tenerife
The forthcoming 2020 Oscars® are taking over the Movie Industry,
but did you know that Tenerife is one of Hollywood’s hidden gems?
Tenerife’s unique microclimate makes for some of the most diverse scenery in the world,
from luscious green forests to barren lunar landscapes.
This stunning backdrop has caught the eye of many film directors and producers over the years, leading to the Island of Tenerife having starring roles in numerous Hollywood Blockbusters.
You may think it seems a bit excessive to travel all the way to a small archipelago of islands just 60 miles off the coast of Africa in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean …. yes, I mean the Canary Islands …. to film a movie or even just part of a movie.
However it is not just for the spectacular scenery, there are also financial benefits to the production company.
The Canary Islands offers special tax incentives and allowances for film production companies, which is done in order to increase local economic development. For example, if the production company makes use of a local production service company they could be entitled to a 0% local VAT rate (IGIC).
This is all made possible due to the geographical location and distance from mainland Spain.
There have been numerous movies filmed here over the years, but can you recognise any of the more popular ones from the images below?

Fact or Fiction?
There are a number of movies which some claim were filmed in Tenerife, which have been disputed by others, however there does not appear to be any concrete evidence to support either side, namely Star Wars, Planet of the Apes and Titanic (I think this one is easily resolved!).
If you know of any evidence to back up these claims, please share your thoughts with us.
