The Almond Blossom Route is a tradition here in Tenerife and
takes place when the trees are in full bloom,
normally at the end of January through to March.

The volcanic soil surrounding this area creates the perfect environment for the
blossoms to flourish, creating not only beautiful natural scenery,
but also filling the air with a unique scent which has to be experienced.

The 9 kilometre (5 1/2 mile) walk sets off from of the Plaza de la Iglesia in Santiago del Teide
and finishes in the Centro Alfarero Cha Domitila, in Arguayo.

It is a walk of medium difficulty, and takes approximately 4 1/2 hours,
so walking shoes, comfortable attire are essential,
as well as taking drinking water and sun protection.

If this seems a bit extreme, you can join the walk in El Calvario de los Baldios, Valle de Arriba,
which cuts the trip down by half.

For more information on the walks available follow the link here:

Movie Madness in Tenerife

Clipboard-150x150

The forthcoming 2020 Oscars® are taking over the Movie Industry,
but did you know that Tenerife is one of Hollywood’s hidden gems?

Tenerife’s unique microclimate makes for some of the most diverse scenery in the world,
from luscious green forests to barren lunar landscapes.

Teide-May-2016-960x640

This stunning backdrop has caught the eye of many film directors and producers over the years, leading to the Island of Tenerife having starring roles in numerous Hollywood Blockbusters.

You may think it seems a bit excessive to travel all the way to a small archipelago of islands just 60 miles off the coast of Africa in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean …. yes, I mean the Canary Islands …. to film a movie or even just part of a movie.

However it is not just for the spectacular scenery, there are also financial benefits to the production company.

The Canary Islands offers special tax incentives and allowances for film production companies, which is done in order to increase local economic development. For example, if the production company makes use of a local production service company they could be entitled to a 0% local VAT rate (IGIC).

This is all made possible due to the geographical location and distance from mainland Spain.

There have been numerous movies filmed here over the years, but can you recognise any of the more popular ones from the images below?

……………!!! no cheating !!!……………

Fact or Fiction?

There are a number of movies which some claim were filmed in Tenerife, which have been disputed by others, however there does not appear to be any concrete evidence to support either side, namely Star Wars, Planet of the Apes and Titanic (I think this one is easily resolved!).

If you know of any evidence to back up these claims, please share your thoughts with us.

Budget airline Wizz Air is the latest to announce a new route from Tenerife to the UK, helping towards filling the gap left by Thomas Cook following its collapse.

This airline is a young company with some of the newest aircraft in the industry, comprising of around 100 Airbus 320, 321 and 321 Neo planes.

Managing Director of Wizz Air UK, Owain Jones, said "We are delighted to be able to expand our network by offering direct and affordable flights to and from the beautiful island of Tenerife. Lots of people know Tenerife for its beaches but, as always, we want our passengers to discover the other wonderful and lesser-known hidden corners of their destination; forests, volcanoes and mountains are all waiting to be uncovered."
