The summer is looming, yet again, and with it brings sun, fun, cocktails & tourists, all of which, despite some recent adverse press, are welcomed with open arms!

With temperatures predicted to soar to record highs across the Canaries this year, here in Tenerife we are certainly in for a summer to remember.

As some of you may already know, on 29th June Ed Sheeran will bring his spectacular "Mathematics Tour" exclusively to our island; the only performance he will make across Spain! Tickets for the concert, at the Heliodoro Rodriguez López stadium in Santa Cruz, sold out within the hour. So, for those of you who weren’t lucky enough to grab a ticket, what else is in store in Tenerife this summertime?

Well, like all years, the start of summer is marked by the solstice on 20th June, a date which is celebrated, not just in the Canary Islands, but also throughout Spain, by the tradition of San Juan, a tradition of which goes back centuries. Folklore says that fire purifies the soul and drives away evil spirits, so San Juan is celebrated by numerous bonfires and elaborate firework displays, and really is a night to remember.

It is well known that the locals here love to find any excuse for a fiesta, and this year San Juan will be celebrated on Sunday 23rd June, when adults and children alike will take part in one of the most anticipated parties of the year. Bonfires and firecrackers will light up the skies as families, friends, and neighbours gather and dance and sing around the fires. For the bravest, jumping on the flames and running into the sea at midnight are also par for the course … please do not try this at home!

Here at Tenerife Property Shop, summer is traditionally our quieter season, a slight lull after the flurry of activity and sales of the winter months. This winter, like every year, our offices have been a hive of activity as we have worked tirelessly to ensure all our clients  enjoyed a stress-free service and process for their property purchase or sale.

For this reason we, as a company, are taking a short time out at the end of August to allow everyone some family time, and to re-charge our batteries. You can see our summer closing hours below:

The month of June is perfect in Tenerife, enjoying pleasant temperatures and less-crowded beaches, as a precursor to the hot and busy months of July and August, when the islands fill with National and International visitors alike, making June the perfect time to get about and explore the island and decide on the location for your next property purchase.

WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR UK PASSPORT HOLDERS
ENTERING THE EU?

Following recent confusion, and some tourists being refused travel, it is important to check when your passport expires, as rules have changed since Brexit.
You might assume that your passport is valid up to the expiry date. But this isn’t always the case.

Pre Brexit, UK passport holders could freely travel across Europe up to and including the expiry date shown on their passports. However, the UK is now classified by the EU a ‘third country’ and therefore UK passport holders are ‘third country nationals’, and therefore face different rules

For a UK passport holder to visit the EU, they will need a valid passport, and MUST ensure that it meets BOTH of the following rules:

  • the passport MUST have been issued within 10 YEARS of the day you enter the EU country
  • the expiry date MUST be valid for a minimum of 3 MONTHS* after the date of departure from the EU country

* Although the rules are 3 months validity for the Schengen countries (which includes most EU countries plus Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland), some countries which require a visa for entry do have a 6 month validity rule, so the UK Government does suggest sticking to 6 months validity to ensure you are covered.

Welcome to the Summer … how time flies!

The Winter Season has flown past in what feels like a blink of an eye as, here at Tenerife Property Shop, our Team have been busy, busy, busy, trying to keep up with the demand for properties from clients across Europe, and further afield.

We are happy to report that business is definitely back to pre-Covid & Brexit days, and demand for properties is as high as ever.

Well, the Summer has hit with a force, in the form of a heatwave, with temperatures in July exceeding the normal 25ºC, and maxing out at a balmy 38ºC.

But don’t let this put you off, we certainly don’t! Life in Tenerife is designed to work around these temperatures, and even take advantage of them. We have cooling tiled floors, huge patio windows to exploit the fresh sea breezes, ceiling fans, and even air conditioning, all of which help to take the edge off the heat … oh and don’t forget the cocktails!
