Take a walk

From the forests of Anaga to to the open Caldera of Teide there is so much to explore. The island is criss crossed with paths and treks to follow that vary in difficulty and are clearly marked. There are many walking groups who will welcome you, and these are a great way to make new friends. Recent research also shows that being in nature is also good to prevent or mitigate the effects of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

A dip in the ocean

Just as good as a walk is a dip in the ocean. Don’t just perch on a bar stool watching the waves lap up on the shore… jump in! Better still, put on a snorkel and investigate the amazing undersea life. Swimming is great aerobic exercise for people of any age and there is no shortage of beaches on the island, we are surrounded by them. There are also pools to enjoy the sea in such as Lagos Martianez, a wonderful way to keep fit in your sixties in Tenerife!

Golf

Golf is a great sport to meet new friends, it gets you out in the fresh air and it’s a perfect way to keep fit in your sixties in Tenerife (as long as you leave the buggy at the clubhouse!). Not only will you meet new people and enjoy a great atmosphere, but you will learn a new skill which is exactly the sort of challenge that you need in retirement. There are many bars and schools teaching various styles of Spanish dancing which vary from formal lessons to fun evenings, or if you prefer you could join a line dancing group. Dance is probably the best way to spend time with your partner, meet new friends,keep fit in your sixties in Tenerife and giving your brain a challenge.
