As the New Year approaches, it’s natural to start thinking about how to better your life in the coming year. Spending more time with family and friends, enjoying life more and learning something new are all popular resolutions in January, and if these are some of your goals then your timing couldn’t be better! Owning a home in the sun is the New Year’s solution to all of these wishes, but if you don’t act now, you’ll regret it as the economies pick up pace in 2011.

Leading Estate Agents, Tenerife Property Shop, released research results this week which show a dramatic increase in the number of people buying homes in the south with the intention of emigrating, rather than just for a holiday getaway.  The research shows a thirty percent rise in Britons buying property in Tenerife with the intention of living here.

Brits own 42,000 properties in Tenerife

How many properties in Tenerife are British owned?  A question often asked, but one which few have been able to venture anything less than a speculative answer. There is no single database, government or otherwise, with this information.  Tenerife Property Shop, well known as a reliable source of information about the property market in Tenerife, has released a new report which gathers together research undertaken by various bodies including Spanish Insight, Spanish Government (Ministry of Housing, Ministry of the Interior), Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, IESE Business School, El Mundo, ICEX, APCE, AFI and Barclays Bank.
