La Caleta

Background

Some of the nicest areas on the Canary Islands are the beautiful fishing villages that line the coasts, and La Caleta is probably the most charming of them all.  Located a few hundred metres along the coast from Fañabé with its five star hotels, swanky restaurants and designer shops, La Caleta has borrowed some of this upmarket feel, yet still retains its original fishing village character.  It is perhaps the ideal compromise between the traditional and modern.

The village is set around a cove, popular for swimming and snorkelling.  A promenade lines the sea front, with wine bars and some of the best fish restaurants you will find.  Al fresco dining here is a must.  Cooled by the salty breezes and with the sound of waves breaking against the rocks, it is a perfect way to idle through a Tenerife afternoon.  As the day draws to a close, La Caleta provides a perfect spot to sip a cocktail and watch the sun go down.

Take a short walk along around the headland, and the next cove is a lovely sandy beach with a typical Spanish Chiringuito, or beach bar.  This is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike.  Unlike the very touristic beaches in the main resort areas, this is a far more relaxed area to enjoy the sun and the sea.  There is a short break in the paved promenade after this point, and it continues about a hundred metres further along, when it runs past the manicured beaches of Fañabé – still within a short, easy stroll of La Caleta.

Golf in La Caleta

Set behind and beside La Caleta is the Costa Adeje Golf course with 18 championship holes.  In the same area is a new sports centre for international athletes to train.  Recently opened, it has already played host to Championship League teams from the UK as well as a host of Olympians.  Don’t be surprised to see a familiar face or two as you sip a cocktail on La Caleta’s seafront!

Transport

The village of La Caleta faces west and is part of the municipality of Adeje, approximately 25km or 15 miles west of the Reina Sofia International Airport. It is a short drive of 15-20 minutes to the airport, and the large resorts of Los Cristianos and Playa del las Americas are within 5-10 minutes away.
