Fiestas

Tenerife has many "Fiestas", some of which are local to one town and others are island-wide. One such is the fiesta of Corpus Cristi which has been celebrated in late May / early June since 1847 and sees the laying of the famous flower and sand carpets, principally in the towns of La Orotava and La Laguna. The designs for the beautiful pictures laid along the streets and squares are very intricate and nothing short of spectacular. It is said that the very finest coloured sand and rock particles come from above Mount Teide´s snow-line, whilst the painstaking removal of millions of petals from locally grown flowers keep the womenfolk busy for hours on end! If you are in Tenerife during the period of the celebrations of Corpus Cristi, then to see the creations of visual beauty is an event not to be missed.

Nightlife

Dance

Like other arts, dance has gone through an evolution in all its trends of idealism and fantasies and examples of this are shown in the Grand Spanish Classical Dance Show in the Piramide de Arona at the Mare Nostrum Resort in Playa de las Americas .

This show is slow and lively, sad and cheerful whilst being rhythmic and attractive, with choreography alternating between contemporary dance and classical ballet building to a spectacular crescendo. It is the ultimate show of its kind and a special tribute to Tenerife that these masters of dance perform for us here.
